St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office News Updates Oct. 1-5, 2018

Sheriff Scott Keeler reported deputies made four arrests and took a property damage report during the week of Oct. 1-5, 2018.

Warrant Arrest

Christopher McNeely

Christopher McNeely- On Oct. 4, Christopher McNeely, 43, St. Joseph, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class D misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond is set at $15,000 cash or surety.

The warrant comes after a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle broke down at the intersection SW 1371 Road and SW 850 Road on March 29, 2018. Upon arrival, the deputy noticed a male suspect walking around the vehicle. After making contact with the driver and passenger, the deputy received consent to search the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in negative findings. A pink glass pipe was located next to a fence in front of the vehicle by a deputy.

McNeely stated, after being read his Miranda Rights, that when he saw the patrol vehicle coming he tossed the glass pipe from his pocket.

Samuel Downs

Samuel Downs- On Oct. 4, Samuel Downs, 59, Sedalia, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with failure to appear in court on a class D felony non-support, total arrears in excess of 12 monthly payments due under order of support. Bond is set at $2,500 cash only.

Nathaniel Oster

Nathaniel Oster- On Oct. 2, Nathaniel Oster, 37, St. Joseph, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class E felony driving while intoxicated-persistent offender. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

The warrant comes after St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle sitting in a driveway on April 17, 2018. Deputies went up to the vehicle and found the driver asleep at the wheel with the vehicle running. The deputies could see an open 12 pack of beer between the driver and passenger seat. When deputies spoke with Oster they could smell the strong odor of intoxicants. Oster admitted to drinking. When asked if he would participate in a field sobriety test, he stated he would rather skip straight to the breath test. Oster blood alcohol count was .217, more than two and a half times the legal limit.

Tabitha Cathcart

Tabitha Cathcart- On Oct. 2, Tabitha Cathcart, 35, unknown, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant for a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class D misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond is set at $15,000 cash or surety.

The warrant comes after the vehicle Cathcart was a passenger in was pulled over for a traffic stop on March 2, 2018. During a search of the vehicle, two glass pipes with crystal like residue were found. The pipes tested positive for methamphetamines. During questioning, Cathcart admitted that one of the glass pipes was hers.

Property Damage in Collins

On Oct. 2, a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to De Laporte Street in Collins in reference to property damage.

Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with Melissa McCoy. She stated that a city employee had advised her of damage to the Collins Christian Church. The deputy looked at the windows on the annex building and observed three broken windows and a couple of holes in the siding of the building. Next to the broken glass on the ground, under the windows, the deputy observed rocks and part of a red brick that appeared out of place. The damage had occurred sometime between Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. and Oct. 2 at 10 a.m.

McCoy contacted the Deacon of the church. Deacon Donnie Holtgrewe filled out a request for prosecution and a probable cause statement on behalf of the Collins Christian Church.
