St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office News Updates April 16-20, 2018 

Sheriff Scott Keeler reported deputies made three arrests during the week of April 16-20, 2018. 

Warrant Arrests

     John Bell (No Photo)- On April 18, John Bell, 61, Appleton City, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class B misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Bell was booked and released pending formal charges.
     The charge comes after a report of a careless and imprudent driver in Appleton City. A St. Clair County deputy arrived in the area and located the suspect vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as John Bell, failed to yield to the deputy, while swerving all over the road. After the vehicle finally came to a stop, the deputy made contact with Bell and noticed the key factors to intoxicated driving. Bell agreed to a blood draw from the hospital. Bell’s blood alcohol count was .384.

Tyler Thomson

     Tyler Thomson- On April 17, Tyler Thomson, 25, Independence was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant for failure to pay fines on a class B misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Thomson was also arrested on an infraction charge of speeding 1-5 mph over the posted speed limit. Total bond is set at $1,544.50 cash only.

     The driving while intoxicated charge comes from a traffic stop by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on Aug. 2, 2017. The speeding charge comes from a traffic stop by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on July 4, 2016.

Nathaniel Oster

     Nathaniel Oster- On April 17, Nathaniel Oster, 36, St. Joseph, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class B misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Oster was booked and released pending formal charges.
     The arrest comes after St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle sitting in a driveway. Deputies went up to the vehicle and found the driver asleep at the wheel with the vehicle running. The deputies could see an open 12 pack of beer between the driver and passenger seat. When deputies spoke with Oster they could smell the strong odor of intoxicants. Oster admitted to drinking. When asked if he would participate in a field sobriety test, he stated he would rather skip straight to the breath test. Oster blood alcohol count was .217, more than two and a half times the legal limit.
