St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office News Updates Nov. 27- Dec. 1, 2017

 Sheriff Scott Keeler reported deputies made two arrests, took two stealing reports, and a shoplifting report during the week of Nov. 27- Dec. 1, 2017.

Melvin Lee

            Melvin Lee- On Dec. 1, Melvin Lee, 52, Osceola, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class E felony domestic assault in the fourth degree. Lee was booked and released pending formal charges.
            The arrest comes after a St. Clair County deputy responded to NE 151 Rd. in Osceola after a report of a domestic assault in progress. When the deputy arrived at the scene, Lee was walking towards the deputy in his driveway.
            The deputy spoke with the female subject at the house. She stated that Lee and her always argue towards the end of the month, but this time was worse. She stated, this time, Lee had hit her.

Micky Kottwitz

            Micky Kottwitz- On Nov. 27, Micky Kottwitz, 42, Osceola, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class D misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Kottwitz was booked and released pending formal charges.
            The arrest comes after a St. Clair County deputy pulled over a vehicle for traffic violations. The driver gave the deputy consent to search the vehicle. The passenger, Kottwitz, admitted to having methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia on his person.

                                                                 Stealing in Appleton City
            On Nov. 27, a St. Clair County deputy was advised by the St. Clair County Communications Division of a call for service in reference to a theft.
            The deputy made contact via the phone to the victim, Adam Strope. Strope said between the hours of 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2017 and 9:30 a.m. of November 26, 2017 three of nine trail cameras were stolen from his property off of Highway H south of Highway O.
            Strope said the cameras were in the woods on his property. The cameras missing are a Bushnell trail camera and the second was a Browning trail camera. Total value of the cameras is $315.
            Strope stated there was also a camera missing that the Missouri Conservation owned. Both parties involved desired prosecution.

                                                                 Stealing in Lowry City
            On Nov. 28, a St. Clair County deputy responded to Dollar General in Lowry City in reference to stealing.
            Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the assistant manager. She stated that she was working behind the register and watched a male subject giving hand signals to two females outside of the store. The assistant manager said she then noticed two females jump into a gold colored Ford Thunderbird and leave.
            The assistant manager stated she went outside and looked at the clothing rack and noticed four or five heavy sweaters, and three child size outfits missing.
            The assistant manager described one female as having blonde hair, wearing a tank top and sweater. The second female has red hair and glasses, wearing a brown and red long sleeve top.
            Estimated value of items is $62.50.

                                                              Shoplifting in Appleton City
            On Nov. 30, A St. Clair County deputy responded to Dollar General Store on Fourth Street, Appleton City in reference to a shoplifting in progress.
            The deputy was advised that three juvenile females had left the store and were walking west towards the park.
            The deputy made contact with a store employee who stated that three female juveniles were in the store around the makeup and the headphones. The store employee stated that he watched the video surveillance footage and observed that the juveniles were stuffing products into a jacket.
            The employee also stated that all three juveniles went into the bathroom at the same time and one returned to the bathroom to get her coat. The employee stated he went into the bathroom and located an empty pink “Gumy” earphone package in the trash can.
            Another St. Clair County deputy was searching the area for the three juveniles and located them at the city park. The juveniles denied stealing anything. The area was searched and a set of pink earphones were located where the deputy had originally seen the juveniles.
            The juveniles were transported to their residence and contact was made with their mother. The situation was explained to her and that the case would be turned over to the juvenile office.
