St. Clair County Sheriff Scott Keeler said deputies took several calls related to an Internal Revenue Service phone scam, made seven warrant arrests, and took a report of stealing during the week of Nov. 16-23.
IRS phone scam
Sheriff Keeler said the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous complaints in reference to citizens receiving telephone calls from individuals posing as employees of the Internal Revenue Service(IRS). Citizens report the caller is threatening law enforcement will seize property and assets due to non payment. Attempts have even been made to assist with setting up a payment plan.
“All contact from the IRS will be via the mail,” said Sheriff Keeler. “The IRS will not threaten to bring law-enforcement to make arrested for not paying. They will not call to demand immediate payment or call about taxes owed.”
