Additional Information

The charges stem from an incident that occurred during the early morning hours on Oct. 7. St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to the Appleton City area in reference to a sighting of a stolen vehicle. Corporal Jason Matter located the vehicle traveling on Highway 52 in Appleton City. The vehicle stopped in the parking lot of the Appleton City School and Deputy Dale Roberts arrived on scene to assist Cpl. Matter. The deputies ordered Clemons out of the vehicle. Clemons brandished a firearm and deputies ordered him to drop the firearm several times. Clemons refused, raised the firearm and fired at deputies. The deputies returned fire, striking him multiple times.

The sheriff explained the deputies were not injured in the incident. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control were called into to conduct the investigation on the incident.
